JOE LIRENTI

I’m a 27-year-old artist based in São Paulo, Brazil, working across music, tattoo, events and photography. My approach is shaped by context and collaboration — starting from atmosphere, process, and concept rather than fixed outcomes. My work moves between mediums and follows a set of recurring themes: texture, decay, and the tension between structure and intuition.

I’m drawn to dissonance and distortion, not as style, but as ways of expressing vulnerability. I often collaborate with artists in different countries, responding to shifting conditions — environmental, psychological, and formal.

If you'd like to talk, collaborate, or say hi, my contact’s below.

This trilogy of multimedia works marks a convergence between my musical practice and other tactile languages — photography, print, and tattoo. Developed between São Paulo and Tokyo, the project explores themes of spirituality, love, and urban surfaces. Each chapter includes an album, a printed booklet with original photographs, and in some cases, a catalog of tattoo designs.

Conluio Etéreo 幽玄霊交
On becoming human again:
CE was recorded in 2023. As a response to the rise of AI, I took the opposite path and delved into what it means to be human. The music is electronic, yet recorded in a fully organic way. Every instrument was played by my own hands and recorded onto cassette tape. Nothing was manipulated by a computer.

While finishing the album in 2024, I began exploring analog photography, revisiting the themes of human error and chance. I photographed fungi and decay, which were eventually transmuted into abstract forms tattooed onto my friends’ skin.

Solace & Terror 安穏恐怖
On transitory moments:
S&T was born from a journey in search of meaning. The journey is eternal, but the album marks the period of the second half of 2024 and the first of 2025, when I decided to find love within myself, in every form it could appear. It came as creative action, distant travels, and special people.

I tried to sum it all up in this work, which brings together textual fragments from my subconscious, photographs taken in Japan, and again, music. As the second part of the trilogy, I replace electronic bases with acoustic and traditional instruments, aiming to go beyond aesthetics and express myself through sounds that inhabit the collective unconscious and align with this emotional search.

On texture and the city:
São Paulo is a city of improvisation. The city’s identity builds itself by erasing its own past, and its people carry this permanent state of transition within them. Poorly planned buildings and roads crumble over time, covering up layers of nature and architecture with questionable historical value.

Created over the course of two months, this project presents a catalog of tattoo designs merging the decaying urban landscape of São Paulo with the bodies of my models, surroundings literally shaping the skin. Dermiscapes is also a sound collection, adding an extra layer to the images. It’s texture on the skin, in the ears, and on the walls.

During October 2025, Dermiscapes' was brought to Tokyo, in form of a 20 day residency on Moodiful Tattoo studio and 3 gigs at Oriental Force Koenji, Chitei Otsuka and Tangle Shibuya , closing the cycle of the trilogy.
